Family and Career
Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of Ex-prime minister and famous politician of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif. She got her early education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore. She got enrolled in King Edward Medical College but later discontinued her studies.
She got married to Muhammad Safdar Awan in 1992. They have children naming Muhammad Junaid Safdar, Mehr-un-Nisa Munir, Mahnoor Safdar.
In the meanwhile she attended University of Punjab and completed her undergraduate studies and master’s degree in literature.
In 2012, she completed her PhD. while in 2014, Her degree of M.A. (English Literature) and Ph.D. in Political Science was questioned in Lahore court. It is unclear weather the PhD degree was honorary or earned.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif was nominated a Young Global Leader 2013 by World Economic Forum owing to her hard work and public support in the General Elections 2013 and in general politics.
She became politically active in 2017 once her father Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in regards to the Panama Papers case. She campaigned for her mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, throughout the elections of NA-120.
